The Diversity and Social Justice Project, with matching funds from the Kirkland Endowment, announced that two students will receive funding to conduct social justice internships this summer. Recipients are Sujitha Amalanayagam '10 and Sarah Goodell '11. The students' goal is to do work that makes a significant contribution to society.

Amalanayagam will intern with Traveller not Tourist. Traveller not Tourist is a non-profit organization whose main goal is to allow foreigners to do socially conscious work in Peru while experiencing and learning about the culture. The project attempts to provide children who are socially or economically disadvantaged or abandoned at an early age, with the chance to better themselves in society and build their future.

Goodell's internship is with The Advocates for Human Rights, a non-profit organization in Minneapolis that works to create international human rights standards to promote civil society and reinforce the rule of law. The Advocates documents human rights abuses, advocates on behalf of individual victims, educates on human rights issues, and provides training and technical assistance to address and prevent human rights violations.
