A Wall Street Journal article that addressed changes in corporate internship programs included comments by Career Center Assistant Vice President Mary Evans as well as references to Hamilton’s Career Center. Published on April 23, “Colleges, Employers Rethink Internship Policies” reported that the career center “won't post openings for unpaid positions from companies that they know also offer paid internships.” Summarizing the general situation, Evans said, "It's clear, in the last year, that colleges and universities have begun to individually and collectively come up with a voice on this [unpaid internship dilemma].”

In outlining the challenges for both students and career centers, the article reported that, “Some companies are moving toward paid programs. Others … are getting rid of internship programs altogether. The pressures could result in better pay and educational experiences for interns who win the coveted openings—but fiercer competition for the spots that remain.”
