Hamilton almost pulled off the major upset, but William Smith
battled back from a 17-point second half deficit to edge the Continentals,
67-65. Jeesica Levi's basket with 18:22 remaining put Hamilton ahead 46-29, but
William Smith then outscored Hamilton 11-0 over the next six minutes to close
to 46-40. After a Kim Herrig jumper, Hamilton took a 54-48 lead with 7:32 left.
Then Jennifer Goodell and Wendi Schoff took over and scored William Smith's
next 15 points. The Herons led 63-60 with 2:46 left. A Jen Moran three-pointer
rimmed out with Hamilton down three in the closing seconds and William Smith
clinched the win at the foul line. A Moran three-pointer cut the margin to two,
at 67-65, but that was as close as Hamilton could get at the end. Levi finished
with 16 points on 7-8 shooting, Ashley Merriman scored 16 and grabbed 14 boards
and Jen Moran added 15 points.
