Hamilton College finished in a tie for fifth place in the overall team standings at the New York State championships, which were held on Whitney Point Lake on May 2 and 3.

Hamilton won the trophy for most improved team in points standings with 65 points, which was good for a tie with St. Lawrence University in the 27-team field. Ithaca College won with a point total of 140.

The two days of competition were cool and overcast, and the teams faced a wind that was blowing down the 2,000-meter course early Saturday morning, but died down during the later races. Sunday was calm.

The varsity eight finished sixth in the grand final with a time of 7:11.14. Ithaca was first at 6:56.91. The crew finished third in its heat with a time of 7:10.68 to qualify for the grand final. The second varsity eight finished fifth in the grand final with a time of 7:35.50. Ithaca claimed first place in the race at 7:05.80.

The novice eight finished fourth in the grand final with a time of 7:36.93. Ithaca again finished first in the novice eight in 7:23.08. Hamilton finished third in its heat with a time of 7:28.47 to qualify for the grand final.

The novice four finished second behind Iona College in the grand final with a time of 8:49.58. Hamilton raced to second place in its heat with a time of 8:50.52 to qualify into the final.

Sophie Breene '12 was coxswain for the varsity eight. The rest of the lineup included Kendall Scott '10 at stroke, Jenn Anderson '10 in the bow seat and the following rowers (seats seven through two in descending order): Allie Boyaris '12, Erika Desmond '12, Spencer Gulbronson '12, Sarah Weatherall '12, Holly Bailey '12 and Helen Quigley '10.

Clair Cassiello '11 was coxswain for the second varsity eight. The rest of the lineup included Lily Ericsson '10 at stroke, Haley Peterson '11 in the bow seat and the following rowers (seats seven through two in descending order): Bret Lineberry '11, Christine Raia '10, Katya Adair '10, Eban Lewis '11, Eloise Walter '11 and Pam Lewis '11.

Hanna Kahrmann-Zadak '12 was coxswain for the novice eight. The rest of the lineup included Izzy Cannell '11 at stroke, Annika Treyball '12 in the bow seat and the following rowers (seats seven through two in descending order): McKayla Dunfey '12, Sarah Kelley '12, Elizabeth Rumelin '12, Antonia Villa '12, Virginia Slattery '12 and Katie Peterson '12.

Laura Boynton '12 was coxswain for the novice four. The rest of the lineup included Catherine Florea '11 at stroke, Manique Talia-Murray '12 in the bow seat, Alice Dannenberg '11 in the 3-seat and Catherine Prescott '12 in the 2-seat.
