Step 2: Collection by Physical Plant

Every day the custodial staff collects the bags from every garbage and recycling bin on campus. The groundsperson above, Mo, allowed us to follow him on his route and take the pictures you see here. Bags are collected from every residence hall, class, and administrative building and brought to Physical Plant's main facility on Griffin Road, for sorting before being shipped to the Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority (OHSWA).

At the main facility Physical Plant keeps three blue dumpsters and a trash compactor. Each recycling bin has a corresponding dumpster where bags of that item are collected, and all garbage is compacted before removal. Nearly every day a physical plant hook-lift truck carries the recyclables to  OHSWA.
