Kirkland Giving Initiatives
To help perpetuate the Kirkland legacy on College Hill, you are invited to direct a contribution to one or more of the following areas via check to the Trustees of Hamilton College, by calling Hamilton's secure phone line at 866-729-0315 or online at www.hamilton.edu/makeagift:
- Annual Fund: Unrestricted Annual Fund gifts are the College's most important philanthropic priority. By making an unrestricted gift you provide President Stewart and the Board of Trustees the flexibility to apply your support where the College needs it most urgently.
- Kirner-Johnson Renovation and Expansion: Since 1968 KJ has played a vital role in the life of the campus. Built to house a number of academic and social functions for Kirkland College, a renovated and expanded KJ will be the central home for the social sciences at Hamilton..
- New Arts Facilities - Studio Arts, Theater and Gallery/ Museum: Whether they are creating art or appreciating it, our students are worthy of facilities that enhance their endeavors and enrich their experiences. Planning is underway to update and renew a studio arts center, Minor Theater, and the Emerson Gallery to reinforce the centrality of the arts in liberal arts education.
- Chuck Root Kirkland Lecture Series: Chuck Root '40 was a devoted supporter of Kirkland College. He was appointed a trustee in 1968, and remained on the Kirkland Board until the colleges merged in 1978. Mr. Root made a gift to Hamilton before his death in 1999 that is earmarked for programs to preserve and promote the legacy of Kirkland.
- Diversity and Social Justice Project: Through its programming, the Project fosters a diverse community by promoting rigorous, interdisciplinary intellectual activity necessary for social justice movements and characteristic of a liberal arts education.
- Samuel F. Babbitt Kirkland College Fellowship: This program annually awards a cash prize for advanced study to the female graduate who best embodies the Kirkland legacy of independence and scholarship.
- Kirkland Alumnae Prize Scholarship: Established by the Class of '74 and augmented by other Kirkland classes, this prize is awarded to a third- or fourth-year woman who exemplifies the ideals of Kirkland women, specifically initiative, creativity and ingenuity, and who has the ability to achieve objectives through self-directed academic and non-academic pursuits.
- Kirkland Endowment: Endowment income supports lectures, performances and programs that advance the needs and interests of women students.
A Not-So-Limited Engagement:
The Committee for Kirkland College and Hamilton Students
In a little more than four weeks, the first official function of Kirkland alumnae and Hamilton women was planned and successfully executed. We encountered doubts along the way and were advised on more than one occasion to cancel. At the very end we were questioned, "Are you still going with only seven students?" We would have gone with just one! What credibility would the Kirkland community have if we just gave up? With "only" seven students we were able to reach each individual and connect. It's not about numbers, it is about connections. More ...
