Leo Rayhill is indeed attending Reunions '09, but you won't find him on campus on the evening of Friday, June 5. That night, Leo arrives in Syracuse, N.Y. to accept the Syracuse Area Music Award for Lifetime Achievement. The award honors Leo's esteemed career as the host of "Sounds of Jazz," a radio program that has broadcast for nearly half a century on local stations WCNY, WUNY, and WRNY. Rather like the Grammy Awards of the Syracuse area, the "Sammys" honor the contributions of local musicians to the Central New York music scene.

In 1997, Ralph Upson Stone '80 had completed research on his doctoral dissertation, "Women Leaders in Kenya," when he was brutally murdered by a still unidentified assailant in his home in Washington, DC, at the age of 38. Determined that his years of labor would not be lost, his mother, Anne Upson Stone, put the finishing touches on Ralph's research and concluded the writing of his dissertation. In 1998, at age 68, she successfully defended it before her son's professors at George Washington University. That summer, Ralph's Ed.D. degree was posthumously awarded, with his mother and father, Frederick L. Stone, Jr. '51, on hand to receive it.

At Spring Volunteer Weekend, Saturday, April 4, 2009, the Committee for Kirkland College organized a special afternoon of events to recognize the 40th anniversary of when women arrived on the College Hill.

The Hage Building on Genesee Street in Utica which is owned by J.K. Hage '72 was featured in the Utica Observer Dispatch. According to the article: As the sun came out in Utica Thursday, the lights turned off in the lobby.... And that's exactly what was supposed to happen. "I couldn't have timed that better if I'd paid someone," said owner J.K. Hage, who recently remodeled the circa-1950 building to include the latest in "green" technology.

Hamilton graduate Daniel Frost '93 has been granted tenure and promoted to the rank of associate professor of Spanish at the College of the Holy Cross.  Frost, who joined the modern languages and literature department in 2002, graduated Hamilton with a major in Comparative Literature and went on to obtain both a M.A. and Ph.D. from Harvard University.

Zurich North America, a business division of global property and casualty insurance provider Zurich Financial Services Group, has named Hamilton graduate Brad Gow '86 as head of its Specialty Errors & Omissions groups.  As part of Zurich's Specialties business unit Gow will head a nation-wide team in providing Zurich's professional liability protections to a variety of vocational markets as well as managing the development of new products.

The Loughlin Meghji Company, one of the leading financial advisory firms in the United States, has announced the addition of Hamilton graduate Charles Smith '89 to its senior staff.  Smith, most recently a Managing Director in JPMorgan's Leveraged Finance Group, joins Loughlin Meghji with nearly twenty years of leveraged loan and high-yield experience with merchant banking transactions.
