Douglas Massey, outgoing president of the American Sociological Association will present "Mexican Immigration: Consequences of Failed U.S. Policies" will give a lecture on Monday, Oct. 14, at 8 p.m. in the Hamilton Chapel. Massey will examine how the social and economic fabric of Mexico and the U.S. has been affected by U.S.immigration policies.

Massey, chair of the University of Pennsylvania's sociology department, is author of several books including "American Apartheid" and "Beyond Smoke and Mirrors: Mexican Immigration in an Era of Economic Integration." His major areas of research have included international migration and Latin American society with a particular focus on Mexico.

This lecture is part of a series sponsored this fall by the Arthur Levitt Public Affairs Center focused on the topic of "immigration and global citizenship." All lectures are free and open to the public. The next lecture in this series is scheduled for Monday, October 28, when Raja Halwani, assistant professor at the Art Institute of Chicago, will address "The Just Solution to the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict," the subject of his next book.
