Ignorant. Apathetic. Slackers. Cynical. Many commentators use these words to describe the political attitude of young Americans. But more than three-quarters of young people, ages 18-24, will vote in the presidential election, according to a recent national survey done by Hamilton College and Zogby International. The survey, developed by students, looks to better understand young people's attitudes about politics, and find ways to increase their political participation. The poll was released today in Washington, D.C.

The Political Attitudes of Young Americans poll was developed by a group of Hamilton College students involved with NY2K, a website they designed earlier this year to inform their peers about the 2000 New York U.S. Senate race between Hillary Clinton and Rick Lazio. The poll was administered by the polling firm of Zogby International.

The students' work on the website evolved into this national survey of 18-24 year olds to better understand you
