The Weeden Family Scholarship

The Weeden Family Scholarship was established in 2004 by Dr. G. Roger Weeden, Jr., Class of 1939.

George Roger Weeden, Jr., a physician who practiced in the Mohawk Valley, was born in Frankfort, New York. He was a grandson of Willis Weeden, Class of 1882, one of the founders of the Emerson Literary Society. Dr. Weeden was a member of the Delta Upsilon fraternity, managed the basketball team his senior year, and played trumpet in the College band. He graduated in 1939 and, after a short career in sales, fought in World War II. When he was discharged from the military in 1946, Dr. Weeden returned to Hamilton for a year to teach math and take pre-medical courses before enrolling at the University of Rochester Medical School. He earned his M.D. in 1951 and went into general practice with his brother-in-law, Arthur Applegate, Hamilton Class of 1941. Dr. Weeden was a former President of the Herkimer County Medical Society and the Utica Area Alumni Association. He retired from medical practice in 1982, and died in 2006.

This scholarship honors the memory of Dr. Weeden, whose son G. Roger Weeden graduated in 1974, his grandson Christopher Weeden in 2002, and his granddaughter, Kimberly Weeden in 2006.
