The Wellin Museum wants to be your art pen pal! Sending art in the mail is a fun way to share your creativity with others.
Mail your art back to us, or mail it to a friend! Our mail-art activity posts will give you some ideas of what to make. If you mail your art to us, the Wellin education team will send you something we made.
This is a free art program for youth in the Central New York region.
How It Works:
- Sign up and we will send you a Starter Kit with stamps, colored paper, an envelope stencil, Wellin Mail stickers, and a welcome letter!
- We’ll post a Wellin Mail art activity every two weeks on Fridays.
- Mail your art to us or to a friend! If you send us something, we’ll mail something back to you. Write our address on the front of the envelope. Be sure to include a return address and use a stamp!

Mail Art is a movement based on the principle of sending small scale works through the postal service. In the 1960s, artist Ray Johnson started mailing small collaborative drawings, poems, and collages to other artists and friends. They would respond with their own original creations. Some of Johnson's mail art works included instructions to "please add to" a drawing he had started. Wellin Mail is inspired by this tradition, playing with art to connect with each other and surprise one another.
