Are we having fun, nyet?

John Bartle, associate professor of Russian, plays Pictionary with Maggie Whalen ’14 and Colleen Callaghan ’11, members of his fourth-semester Russian 220 class. The game “encourages students to build their vocabulary,” Bartle says, and he typically plays it with his language classes once or twice a semester. “In the first semester, of course, they usually need me to translate the word into English…. By the fourth semester, they can talk about specifics of the term or image.” This semester’s 220 class — “a great group of kids” — concluded with “a final project of a video, shot on campus and done entirely in Russian.”
