  • Audio voice over in Adobe Premiere Adobe Premiere Note: While you can use the computers built-in microphone to record you voice over, you will most likely want to use a USB headset to reduce room noise while recording. Setting up the microphone Plug the USB headset into the computer. In the Menus, go to Premiere>Preferences>Audio Hardware. Set the Default Device pull down menu to your USB headset (Each model of headset is labeled differently ) Creating a new audio track In the menus go to Sequence>Add tracks. In this window you can create new video and audio tracks. Add "0" video tracks and "1" Audio track. Note the placement option. In this case it will be placed after Audio track three. Make sure the track type is set to mono (USB headset is a mono microphone). Recording the voice over In the Menus go to Window>Audio Mixer>your current sequence. Here you will see all of the audio tracks in you sequence. In the newly created track click the "S" and "R" buttons (see photo). The "R" button enables recording on that track and the "S" button will  mute all other audio tracks (A.K.A. Solo). Click the red record button at the bottom of the audio mixer window to place Premiere into Record standby mode. Move the playhead in the timeline to where you would like the recording to start. In the Audio Mixer window click the Play button at bottom of the window to start recording. The recording will be placed in the timeline and in your Project window.
  • Exporting Video from Adobe Premiere Adobe Premiere     First, go to the File menu in Premiere and select Export -> Media.
  • Premiere: Quick Guide Adobe Premiere Table of Contents Getting Started Setting up a New Project Save Location Choosing the Sequence Presets The Interface Source Monitor Program Monitor Project Panel Timeline Basic Editing Using Clips in the Timeline Creating a Title Adding Effects and Transitions Exporting   Getting Started Premiere is now the standard video editing software supported at Hamilton College. It is available on Macs in a number of locations on campus, including the Multimedia Presentation Center, Burke 001, and Couper Classroom, all located in the library, as well as Science Center 3039 and the Digital Arts Lab located in LIST. Before starting any video project you should make sure you have thought about storing your project. Digital Video takes up a large amount of space on computers, and will not fit on your SSS space in almost all cases. If you do not have access to server space for your project, you should make sure you have adequate space on an external hard drive / flash drive for your work, since all local storage on school computers is Temporary.   Setting Up a New Project   Save Location     Choosing the Sequence Presets   The Interface   Source Monitor   Program Monitor   Project Panel   Timeline   Basic Editing   Using Clips in the Timeline   Creating a Title   Adding Effects and Transitions   Exporting
  • Exporting Video from iMovie '11 Apple iMovie Contents Exporting in iMovie '11 Exporting for DVD Exporting in iMovie '11 1. When you are done editing your movie and are ready to export, go to the Share menu. For a simple and quick way to export a high-quality product, select Export Movie. This will bring up a window with some preset export options.         2. In the new window, chose the Size to Export based on your needs and preferences. There are several preset sizes, in pixels; hovering over the information symbol at the right of a selection displays its approximate file size in MB. From this window you can also name your file and select where it will save to (the default save location on the MPC lab computers is the desktop).                       Exporting For Use on a DVD 1. When you are done editing your movie and are ready to export, go to the Share menu and select iDVD. This will open your project in iDVD, from where you can select a DVD menu display and burn your movie to DVD.
  • Importing Files into iMovie '11 Apple iMovie Importing from mini-DV, DVD, VHS iMovie '11 is similar to iMovie '9 in that it will allow you to import video from a variety of different sources, including Mini-DV, VHS, DVD. You can import any of these formats, no matter who created them, but be aware of copyright laws when you are using footage that is not your own. Below is a quick tutorial on the process of importing video into iMovie. First, launch the iMovie application and create a New Project. To begin importing footage, go to the File menu and select Import From Camera. You can also use the keyboard shortcut cmd i. Now, hit Play on the DV deck, DVD, or VHS player. If the device is recognized, you should see the video begin playing on the screen.   When you want to start importing footage, click the Import button in the bottom right of the preview screen. Now you will be prompted with a new window asking you to name the file of the clip your importing, which will be referred to as the new Event. You will also be prompted to designate where you want it saved. It is a good idea to create a folder within the scratch disk when working with video and keep your related files in that folder, so you should set the Save to: field to that folder. Once you have named your event and set the location correctly, click the Import button. Now you will be taken back to the preview screen and your video will start playing, only this time it will be recorded. When you have captured your clip, click the Stop button in the bottom right. Your new clip will automatically be added to the Event Library. NOTE: If you plan on working with this project on another computer you should reconsider the video editing software you are using. In iMovie  your project can be easily lost if instructions are not followed exactly. iMovie is only recommended to be used when a project is going to be started and completed in the same day, with the same computer.   Importing Files Video If you wish to use movie files in iMovie rather than capture video from a mini-DV, VHS, or DVD you will have to follow a different but easier process than the one explained above. To start, go to the File menu and select Import -> Movies. A finder window will open up allowing you to browse for the file you wish to import. Once you've found the file, set the Save to: field to the folder where your other project videos are located. Then you can name the new Event and select whether to optimize the video or import the original. This setting should be set to match what your current project video size is. Next, select whether you want to copy the movie file into the folder or move it, and when your satisfied with your choices, click the Import button. NOTE: iMovie supports the DV, DV Widescreen, HDV 1080i, HDV 720p, MPEG 4 Simple Profile, and iSight video formats. The imported movie will be added to your Event Library.   Graphics To insert a still image, you can click on the Photos Icon to pull up your iPhoto Library.   NOTE: This method only shows images within the iPhoto library. Now as long as you have photos in your iPhoto library you will see something like the screen shown to the right. From here, you can drag your photos to the Project Viewer into the location you want them to appear.   If you would rather not use the iPhoto library, you can also drag image files right into your project from the desktop or a finder window. Simply drag the images into the Project Viewer the same way as with the iPhoto library.         Audio To import an audio file, click on the Music icon located directly to the left of the Photos icon. NOTE: Although many audio file formats can be imported into iMovie, we recommend .aiff. Now you should see a few different folders and a list of audio tracks from selected Apple software. Navigate to the audio track you want and drag it into the Project Viewer. Once again, if you want to import an audio file from somewhere else on your computer, that is also an option. Simply drag the file from a finder window or your desktop into the Project Viewer. NOTE: Once the AIFF has been imported as an audio track, you can edit it as desired (crop, move, adjust volume).         Graphics files will show up as clips in the Project Viewer, video files will be added to the Events Library, and audio files will show up as track in the Timeline.

  • Audiovisual Services Copyright, Displaying Media Audiovisual (AV)   Audiovisual Services Displaying Copyrighted Media on Campus   Rented Films and Videos Media Library Materials Music Library Materials Programs Recorded Off-Air Faculty-Owned Videos Use of Media by Guest Lecturers Rented Films and Videos Media materials are rented, by contract, for a specific occasion. If a film is to be open to more than just the students in a class, it must be rented for an "open showing" which allows for on-campus advertising and an audience larger than a class of students. If a student will not be able to attend the scheduled showing, and you want to schedule a second showing, that must be arranged before the rental is ordered and made a part of the film or video rental contract. Many companies charge an extra fee to show a film or video a second time, even if it's for a single student from the original class. Rented materials cannot be placed on reserve at the Media Library. Rented materials cannot be shown in the Media Library for a student who may miss the original showing. The additional showing in a classroom must be scheduled through the AV office and added to the rental contract. College facilities and equipment cannot be used to show media that have not been legally obtained for classroom or public showings. Videos that you have rented from a local video store such as Blockbuster do not constitute legally obtained copies for open showings. It is, however, permissible to use these videos for classroom showings. Media Library Materials Films and videos owned by the Media Library are generally purchased for classroom use only. These media cannot be used for a public showing and therefore cannot be advertised, even to the campus community. Showings of these media cannot be opened to students outside your class. In some cases, you can purchase a public performance license that will allow you to advertise a showing of a library item. Contact the AV Film Specialist for assistance.  Music Library Materials The Music Library collection is a closed collection. Materials cannot be signed out without express consent of the Music Library Coordinator. If the Music Library Coordinator grants permission and the material you want constitutes less than 10% o the total work, a CD copy can be made for you by either the Music Library or the AV Department.   Programs Recorded Off-Air Broadcast programs may be taped off-air only by nonprofit educational institutions, for use in instruction and not for entertainment. A broadcast may be recorded and retained by the educational institution for a period of 45 calendar days after the recording date. At the end of that period, the recording must be erased. Off-air recordings may be used once by a teacher, and can be repeated once for instructional reinforcement. The showing must be in a classroom, and must take place within the first 10 consecutive school days. A teacher must request a program be recorded. Programs cannot be recorded by the AV Department in anticipation of a request. After the first 10 consecutive school days a tape may be used by a teacher only to review and determine whether or not to purchase the program. All copies of off-air recordings must include the copyright notices displayed on the program.   Faculty-Owned Videos Videos purchased by you or by your department may be used by you in your classroom, but cannot be used for an open showing to students outside your class and cannot be advertised on campus. Videos you have taped off-air at your home cannot be shown in the classroom. AV can make an off-air tape at your request, or it may be possible to rent or purchase a program through appropriate channels. Use of Media by Guest Lecturers If a guest artist or lecturer brings audiovisual materials (film or video) for use in their program, we need to know that they have permission to use those items. We have a form for them to sign declaring such. Return to Menu of Copyright Topics Return to Audiovisual Services Home

  • Audiovisual Services Copyright, Displaying Media Copyright   Audiovisual Services Displaying Copyrighted Media on Campus   Rented Films and Videos Media Library Materials Music Library Materials Programs Recorded Off-Air Faculty-Owned Videos Use of Media by Guest Lecturers Rented Films and Videos Media materials are rented, by contract, for a specific occasion.

  • Exporting Video from iMovie '11 Digital Media Contents Exporting in iMovie '11 Exporting for DVD Exporting in iMovie '11 1.
  • Importing Files into iMovie '11 Digital Media Importing from mini-DV, DVD, VHS iMovie '11 is similar to iMovie '9 in that it will allow you to import video from a variety of different sources, including Mini-DV, VHS, DVD.

  • Video Common Issues Multimedia Presentation Center (MPC)   Things to consider about video . . The length of the video is a major consideration. Videos of more than 5 minutes in length have technical and logistical issues not encountered in shorter video projects. And, a video novice can expect to spend 3 hours/minute of final project length editing original video.  Camera settings are critical to success when shooting original video. They can have effects on your project that are nearly impossible to fix with the computer.  Be certain to ask about setting, audio bit rate, white balance, and special effects when you borrow a camera from the MPC. Special storage arrangements must be made in advance of any editing. Video requires 3.6 mb/sec hard drive storage.  As an example, five minutes of raw unedited video requires over 1 GB of storage space.  Edits to the video, compression formats, and delivery can require up to three times the storage space necessary for the amount of raw video being manipulated. Video should be stored, or copied to, a Firewire Harddrive or an MPC video storage account at the end of each editing session. File management is critical to the editing process. Digital video is composed of multiple files that must remain in a specific relationship.  Digital video must be properly prepared and compressed for the intended delivery before it can be used in a presentation.  Consult an MPC instructional technologist, mpc@hamilton.edu, to develop a video workflow that will meet your project needs.  Storage Capturing and editing video requires large amounts of high-speed digital storage – much more space and speed than that of a floppy disk, zip disk, the student storage server (SSS) and even some computer hard drives. Video storage, whether a firewire harddrive or MPC video storage account, is determined by characteristics of the intended video project.  Longer video projects or multiple projects within the semester are usually better handled by firewire harddrive storage.  Short single video projects are often handled through specially set up MPC storage accounts.  These accounts are provided in planned support efforts and should be used while working in the MPC or Burke 001.  Accounts for students working in groups are set up differently from those for individual projects. File Management An understanding of video file structure and how to manage files between storage area and authoring area is one of our most frequently encountered “gotchas”.  Because the MPC is a public lab facility, the "Scratch disk" on MPC computers is intended as an editing area but not as a storage area.  Projects left on the scratch disk are not backed up and can be deleted by anyone who sits down at that computer.  While actually editing video, the video project folder should be on the Scratch disk. Working from the Scatch disk ensures that pieces of your project will not be lost in transit ("dropped frames") between an external drive/network account and the computer. Students must attend storage account appointments and understand their video project file structure to successfully complete video projects using our public lab resources.    Delivery The desired output (delivery/display) method has a significant effect upon the number of steps included in the overall assignment design.  There are also technical considerations associated with compression formats that may be dependent upon the characteristics of the footage being used.  And, the actual time it takes for the files to be converted to the desired output format can be up to three times the actual duration of the final video. A 3 minute video can take 9 minutes to export/compress and another 9 minutes to burn to disc.  Allowing time for a trial presentation run on a lectern system is advised. Video Home

  • Audiovisual Services Copyright, Displaying Media Video   Audiovisual Services Displaying Copyrighted Media on Campus   Rented Films and Videos Media Library Materials Music Library Materials Programs Recorded Off-Air Faculty-Owned Videos Use of Media by Guest Lecturers Rented Films and Videos Media materials are rented, by contract, for a specific occasion.

  • Importing Files into iMovie '11 Video Importing from mini-DV, DVD, VHS iMovie '11 is similar to iMovie '9 in that it will allow you to import video from a variety of different sources, including Mini-DV, VHS, DVD.

  • Video Common Issues Video   Things to consider about video . Video Home
  • Video Support Models Video Generalized Models of Video Support Instructional Technologists will work with you to develop a video workflow that meets your project needs.  The following  models  are generalized examples offered as a starting point for discussion.  Analytical Assignment Model Creating clips from existing footage, moving images in support of or to illustrate a theme. Clips captured from commercially produced films to support oral presentations, oral presentations using PowerPoint with embedded video, and video for web pages, are all examples of assignments we have supported in this general category.  Each different final delivery method (ex. DVD or web video) requires tailoring of the basic video workflow, dictates how we allocate resources, and is important for playback.    Generalized Analytical Video Timeline: Faculty are invited to a coordinated support meeting with members of HILLgroup to plan their project and develop a timeline. We then work with Faculty as they create a model of the video project they have assigned to their students.  This step helps tailor the learning experience to the learning goals and helps the professor develop evaluation criteria for the final projects. Each planned video project will also include the following support from ITS: Video Storage until resources are fully committed MPC Storage Account Appointments Video Basics Workshop Presentation Trial and Support  Original Footage Assignment Original footage video projects are those in which students shoot their own video.  We loan miniDV digital video cameras for students to shoot their own original footage. Students must purchase their own miniDV tapes. Examples of assignments we have supported in this general category include:  Videos shot and produced from original storyboards based on an original creative concept or as an adaptation.  The learning goals of  original footage projects range from demonstration of an understanding of another language and/or culture to creative artistic expression.   Students have produced:  documentaries incorporating original and analytical components, edit through the camera shorts, original adaptations of scenes from commercially produced films, content specific commercials, foreign language projects demonstrating language proficiency and cultural sensitivity, video art, multimedia installations, and collaborative performance art. Generalized Original Video Timeline: Faculty are invited to a coordinated support meeting with members of HILLgroup to plan their project and develop a timeline. We then work with Faculty as they  create a model of the video project they have assigned to their students.  This step helps tailor the learning experience to the learning goals and helps the professor develop evaluation criteria for the final projects. Each planned video project will also include the following support from ITS: Video Storage until resources are fully committed MPC Storage Account Appointments Video Basics Workshop Presentation Trial and Support The timeline, information covered, and resources necessary to support either analytical or original footage assignments vary significantly with the specific goals of the faculty member and their course.  Definitions of Planned Support Events Videography & Language of Film Workshop In this workshop, students learn universal camera settings (audio bit rates, record mode),camera angles, and basic language of film.  We begin by viewing a few short video projects and discussing the visual, aural, and temporal elements.  Formal deconstruction of these elements is tied back to basic language of film and design of multimodal communications. Analytical and creative components of media literacy are woven into the deconstruction of a video.  In hands-on sessions following the discussion, students learn the basics of storyboarding and planning a video project, univeral camera settings, framing & composition, camera angles, and editing through the camera.   MPC Storage Account Appointments Prior to the Video Basics Workshop, students will learn how to access specially created video storage accounts and how to move their files between these server spaces and our public lab facilities. Lack of understanding of file structure and how to manage files between a storage account and authoring areas is one of our most frequently encountered "gotchas".   The type of video project, total final length, and who will be editing it, affect how we can set up storage accounts for students.  Accounts for students working in groups, for example, must  be set up differently from those for individual projects. Video Basics Workshop In this workshop, students receive an overview of video editing and instruction on how to compress and deliver their video project. Students benefit most from the video basics workshop when all or most of their footage is captured before attending.  At that point, they have a concrete idea of what they might be able to do with their footage  and have the opportunity to ask their specific editing questions. Even though we have standardized on apple video editing software and Quicktime for delivery. students who have taken our workshops in the past need to understand and/or review the recommendations and procedures for video authoring each semester. Updates to QuickTime software and the editing software can effect using imported graphics, audio, and voice-overs and microphone audio.  And, the formats of imported files must be compatible with both the editing and compressing software used. There are also technical considerations associated with compression formats that may be dependent upon the characteristics of the footage being used.
