Man Kaplan
Visiting Assistant Professor of Women’s and Gender Studies
Man Kaplan comes to Hamilton from Rutgers University, where they received a Ph.D. in sociology with major support from the Department in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and Rutgers Advanced Institute for Critical Caribbean Studies. Their research and teaching interests include decolonial feminism, feminist epistemologies, and the geopolitics of knowledge. Man is currently working on a book manuscript titled "Discovering Failure, Failing Thoughtfully: The Wills and Costs of Academics," which explores community organizing on university campuses, academic norms, and alternative forms of knowledge production. They have also written on the relationship between visual culture and the coloniality of gender. Man holds a M.A. in humanities and social thought from NYU and a B.A. in sociology and mathematics from Vassar College.
