Area of Study

Federica Di Blasio earned her Ph.D. in Italian at the University of California, Los Angeles, and previously trained as a literature, cinema, and translation scholar at the University of Illinois, the University of Bologna (Italy), and the University of Tours (France). She develops an interdisciplinary approach to Italian studies specializing in the modern and contemporary period and focusing on conceptualizations and representations of migration and the environment in literature and film.

Her research participates in the transnational turn in Italian studies by theorizing a “local/global” approach to texts shedding light on the ways the tension between different geographic scales shapes literary and cinematic aesthetics. Prior to joining Hamilton College, she taught at the University of Georgia.
