Federica Di Blasio specializes in representations of migration and conceptualization of space and place in modern and contemporary Italian literature, and cinema. She earned her Ph.D. in Italian at the University of California (UCLA) with a dissertation theorizing a “local/global” approach to texts that sheds light on the ways the tension between different geographic scales shape literary and cinematic aesthetics. Her book project stemming from her dissertation is a genealogical study of “roots” as metaphors used to express these tensions. Federica has also worked on translation both as a tool for language pedagogy and as a literary practice (in French, Italian, and English). Prior to arriving at Hamilton, she taught Italian language and culture at the University of Georgia.
