Lauralyn Kolb earned a master's at Smith College as a student of Adrienne Auerswald. After Kolb got her degree she continued to study with Auerswald and with the noted American soprano Helen Boatwright.

A lecturer in voice at Hamilton, Kolb also maintains a private studio at home and in New York City. She has appeared throughout the country in recital, oratorio, and operatic performances. Kolb has taught at Colgate University, given master classes on both coasts and served as the New York State governor for the National Association of Teachers of Singing. Her former students have been heard throughout the U.S. and Europe.

Her recordings include Lieder by Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel with pianist Arlene Shrut (Centaur Records); Songs by Clara Schumann, Poldowski, and Amy Beach with pianist Don McMahon (Albany Records); and Just-Spring—Art Songs of John Duke, with pianist Tina Toglia, (part of New World Records Recorded Anthology of American Music).
