Dorothy Ellen Schorge Hanrahan ’93

Dorothy Ellen Schorge Hanrahan ’93, long employed in Hamilton’s Business Office, who earned her A.B. degree from the College at the age of 68, was born on April 20, 1925, in Utica, N.Y. A daughter of Carl and Clarice Kennedy Schorge, she left high school during World War II. After serving as an air raid warden during the war, she was graduated from Utica Comptometry School. Employed by the New York Central Railroad and later by Mohawk Airlines, she acquired her general equivalency diploma (GED) and took courses at Utica College in her spare time.

Dotty Hanrahan began her employment in the Business Office of the College in 1979. While on the Hill she was encouraged to take courses leading to a degree as part of Hamilton’s Horizons Program for older students. She concentrated in art and would remain ever grateful to Professors Bruce Muirhead and William Salzillo for opening many doors of the art world to her. She retired from the College as staff accountant in 2003.

Dorothy Hanrahan, who continued to reside in the Clinton area after her retirement, died on Feb. 10, 2014. Formerly married to Michael Hanrahan, she is survived by a daughter, Susan Misiaszek, as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
