Timothy Blake Kimball ’04

Timothy Blake Kimball ’04, an avid sportsman and global communications company manager, was born in Winter Park, Fla., the son of Katherine, a book designer, and Edward Kimball, an artist/teacher. He grew up in West Lebanon, N.H.

Kimball graduated with an A.B. in geology from Hamilton, where he participated on the club ski and Frisbee teams. In a College application form, he stated, “I am unsure what I want to do in the future, but I would like to do something that combines business and science skills.”

After graduation, Kimball moved to Park City, Utah, to ski before heading to the warmer climes of San Diego where he took up surfing. Keeping true to his stated Hamilton goal, since 2010 he worked for Level 3 Communications of Broomfield, Colo., as a senior utilities and energy program manager. Colleagues found him to be an invaluable member of the global communications provider community, “where his intelligence, wit and friendship will be missed,” according to a published obituary.

In Colorado, Kimball’s passion for outdoor adventures never waned. He enjoyed skiing with friends and climbing mountains. He was an avid traveler, visiting England, Greece, Turkey, Italy, Costa Rica, Australia, New Zealand, Spain and Scandinavia. A cousin observed that some who live to be 100 never know such fullness and happiness.

While skiing on Christmas Day, Kimball suffered an aneurysm. His family drew comfort from visits by friends to the University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora, where he spent his last days, and by messages from friends around the country. An unnamed classmate from Hamilton wrote in the obituary, “He was the epitome of kindness, gentleness and good humor, but I never once saw him show off about that. You were one of the people who made college feel normal and very safe for me early on. Thank you for being such a good man, a good friend and a kindred spirit.”

Timothy B. Kimball died on Jan. 3, 2017, at the age of 34. He is survived by his parents, a twin brother and his dog, Ollie.
