Peter Andrew Doran ’89

Peter Andrew Doran ’89, a software sales executive and life-long sports enthusiast, was born in Liverpool, England, the son of Brian and Joyce Ellis Doran. He spent much of his younger years in Potsdam, N.Y., and later moved to Framingham, Mass., and eventually Marlborough, Mass. On College Hill, Doran, a government major, joined Alpha Delta Phi and lent his athletic talents to the golf and hockey teams, sports he continued to enjoy long after graduation.

Doran’s varied and successful software career included stints at Monster.com, Citrix Systems, Syrinx Consulting Corp., Centage Corp. and Brainshark Inc. An avid and skilled golfer, he was a member of the Marlborough Country Club and, until his illness, actively played in local men’s hockey leagues while also serving as a referee for youth hockey at the New England Sports Center in Marlborough. In 2011, he led his team to a tournament championship.

Peter A. Doran died on Feb. 2, 2016, at age 48 after a battle with brain cancer. He is survived by his wife of eight years, the former Rebekah Honer, his parents and four sons. A previous marriage to Amie Rowe had ended in divorce. “It is especially sad for our class to say goodbye to Peter less than a year after our classmate Mark Green succumbed to the same terrible disease. We mourn them both and will always miss their presence in the Class of 1989’s ranks,” noted Frank Vlossak, co-president of the Class of ’89 in a note to members of the class. “It is clear that Peter, like Mark, made the most of his years and brightened the lives of his many friends on the Hill and beyond.”
