Edward Robb Barrett ’14

Edward Robb Barrett ’14 was born on Sept. 14, 1991, in Syracuse, N.Y., to John P. Barrett, a businessman, and the former Christine Robb. A graduate of Christian Brothers Academy in Dewitt, N.Y., and Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts, Ted Barrett came to Hamilton where he majored in world politics and was active with the Alexander Hamilton Institute Undergraduate Fellows. He was also a member of Psi Upsilon and the football team. At 6'7" and with a husky build, he was a natural for the team and a great presence on campus. His big smile and quick, dry wit lit up any room he entered, said friends Shannon Burke and Charlie Bueneman, both Class of ’14. Barrett could often be found walking to class with his signature Nice ’n’ Easy soda or driving around Clinton in his Avalanche, ready to offer a ride in the cold weather. He loved his friends deeply and was always willing to listen or help in any way he could.

At one time Barrett worked as an associate for the hugely successful 2014 campaign of  Republican Party candidate John Katko for the 24th District seat in the U.S. Congress. Proud of his CBA football career, he enjoyed volunteering and mentoring as a junior high coach at his alma mater. Barrett was always patriotic and cared deeply for Team Red, White and Blue’s efforts for America’s heroes and valued enriching the lives of all veterans in need.

Edward R. Barrett died on Jan. 30, 2016, at home in Lake Placid, N.Y., at age 24. The cause of his death was not reported. He is survived by his parents and six brothers.
