When gun violence changed his life forever, Lelan O’Brien ’23 decided to take action. After interning with the Brady Campaign, which works to end gun violence, O’Brien served as a Courage Fellow for Giffords, a group led by shooting survivor and former congresswoman Gabby Giffords. This month, O’Brien attended a lobby in Washington, D.C., where he met Giffords and other lawmakers working toward a safer future.

Public health work has taken Sherene Brown Cora ’97 across the globe to Africa. In August she moved from a job in Rwanda with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the HIV field to pursue a similar post in Lesotho.

More than 1,200 alumni, family and friends descended on the Hill to Party On, reconnect with old friends and make new memories at Reunions 2023, on June 8 to 11. Of special note, this year marked the largest Hamilton 50th Reunion class - with 82 registered.

Stephanie Andrade ’26 and Katlynn (Kat) Leon ’25 will be exploring their academic interests abroad thanks to Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships. Andrade will travel to the Netherlands this summer, while Leon will study in the United Kingdom this fall.

In a Washington Post essay titled “We have a civics education crisis — and deep divisions on how to solve it,” President David Wippman and Cornell Professor Glenn Altschuler discussed Americans’ lack of knowledge of civics and U.S. history. They reviewed three centuries’ worth of disagreements and variations in how these subjects have been presented beginning with the birth of the nation up to the present.
