Hamilton Government Professor Phil Klinkner, along with several other faculty from the Government Department, hosted live election coverage discussing the presidential race and its potential implications on Election Day, Nov. 3. Klinkner also provided analysis of incoming data and results with assistance from students in his “Political Parties and Elections” course.

Crafting Criminal Justice Reform in Response to Black Lives Matter, an experiential learning practicum in the government department, is a timely offering in this evolving environment.

“The motto immortalized on the Hamilton seal is ‘Know Thyself,’” said Todd Franklin, professor of philosophy, at a virtual panel discussion on June 17 about the history and implications of systemic racism. “Part of knowing thyself, however, is knowing how you are situated. Now is the time to really make a concerted effort to know yourself in relation to race and the context of our nation’s racial situation.”

Three faculty members were named recipients of Hamilton’s highest awards for teaching in the 2019-20 academic year. Dean of Faculty Suzanne Keen announced the honors at the May faculty meeting.

Associate Professor of Government Gbemende Johnson published a chapter in the Research Handbook on Law and Courts.

Associate Professor of Government Gbemende E. Johnson published an article on “Adjudicating Executive Privilege” in the peer-reviewed Law and Society Review.

Six faculty members were approved for tenure by Hamilton’s Board of Trustees during a recent meeting. The board awarded tenure to Katherine Brown (physics), Courtney Gibbons (mathematics), Gbemende Johnson (government), Alexandra List (psychology), Max Majireck (chemistry), and Seth Schermerhorn (religious studies).

The C. Christine Johnson Voices of Color Lecture Series recently offered Hamilton students an opportunity to connect with their faculty and administrators outside of the classroom and on a personal level. Discussing race and gender, five faculty and staff members shared their experiences about negotiating their roles in their respective fields, despite the obstacles that gender and being a person of color impose.
