Hamilton has several apartments available for rent this summer in Washington, D.C.

Stuart Scott '61, chairman of the Board of Trustees, will introduce Hamilton's 19th president to the campus community today, May 13, at 9 a.m. Eastern time in the Chapel. The event can be viewed on the Web by visiting Hamilton's 19th President page and following the appropriate link. A news release, photographs and biographical information about the new president will be posted on the Hamilton Web site following the announcement.

Hamilton College President Eugene M. Tobin has accepted an invitation to join the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation as a senior advisor during the 2003-04 academic year.

At a gala celebration April 2 in New York City, Hamilton College trustees and other close friends announced the establishment of The Eugene M. Tobin Distinguished Professorship in honor of the college’s president.

Hamilton College and Sigma Phi Society have come to terms agreeing to the sale of the organization’s chapter house to the college.

The presidents of the 11 schools that make up the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) have made a unanimous decision to decline a request from U.S.News & World Report for detailed statistical information about the institutions’ athletic teams and programs. The members of NESCAC are Amherst College, Bates College, Bowdoin College, Colby College, Connecticut College, Hamilton College, Middlebury College, Trinity College, Tufts University, Wesleyan University and Williams College.

Hamilton College President Eugene M. Tobin has announced a new policy that prohibits smoking in all campus facilities and entranceways. The new policy takes effect with the start of the 2003-04 academic year in August.

Students in Hamilton's Program in Washington met with Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg at the end of their semester in the nation's capitol. Ginsberg described the Court's internal relationship and answered questions from the students. One student asked how the court's decision in the last presidential election affected the Democratic process. Justice Ginsberg said she strongly disagreed with the Court's majority, though she doubted it would ever be used as a precedent.

Hamilton College is offering summer housing in lower Manhattan for current students and alumni only. Tenants will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis. Professor of Anthropology Henry Rutz is the contact person regarding summer housing in New York City. The College reserves the right to rent only those apartments where minimum occupancy levels can be met.

The Hamilton College Town-Gown Fund has launched the second phase of a fund-raising campaign aimed at bringing the value of the fund to $1 million. More than 100 Central New York corporations and businesses, each of which has conducted at least $50,000 in business with the college over the past three years, are being mailed a letter asking them to consider a contribution to the fund. An almost equal number of businesses outside the region will also be contacted.
