Revere, Mass., mayoral aide Gianni Hill ’21 has parlayed his Hamilton public policy senior thesis into a job with his hometown city government. He’s seeking ways to offset noise pollution from nearby Boston Logan International Airport.

In an essay published in the Syracuse Post-Standard on Sept. 8, professors of government Sharon Rivera and David Rivera reflected on the Gorbachev and post-Gorbachev administrations and the time they spent in Russia in the 1990s.

KinHo Chan joined Hamilton on Sept. 1 as dean of engaged education. In this role, he will oversee the ALEX (Advise, Learn, EXperience) program, a coordinated advising network tailored for each student’s academic success, career preparation, experiential learning, and personal growth, which phased in with the Class of 2025.

In “A Defense of Recommendation Letters,” an essay published by Inside Higher Ed on Sept. 13, author Daniel F. Chambliss, professor of sociology emeritus, reflected on his 40 years of experience as professor and department chair in taking this supportive position.

Hamilton welcomes 48 new faculty members, including nine new tenure-track, in addition to visiting professors, lecturers, and teaching fellows for the 2022-23 academic year. Ninety-five students spent their Saturday volunteering as part of Make A Difference Day organized by Hamilton Association for Volunteering, Outreach and Charity (HAVOC). This year, HAVOC sent students to seven different sites.

In 2016, the New York State government implemented a financial incentive program to make electric vehicles a more affordable choice and increase their adoption. Brian Hu ’24 spent his summer studying the effectiveness of this rebate program on electric vehicle adoption.

By his own admission, V. Hansmann ’72 said turning his life around after youthful rebellion and excess during his college years led to his current literary-satisfying mission of running a writers’ retreat in North Bennington, Vt.
