A Gay Issues Poll of 1,000 high school seniors was developed by Hamilton College and administered by Zogby International. The release of the survey coincides with the Sept. 3 premiere at 10:30 p.m. of the first "Fight for Your Rights: Take a Stand Against Discrimination" episode of Flipped, a reality-based TV series on MTV.

While Hamilton students are away this summer, the campus is undergoing some heavy construction. Buildings will be renovated, sprinklers will be added, and the Main Quad and North Road are getting new curbs and being paved.

When the U.S.Senate opens hearings on Wednesday, June 27, into the Civil Rights commission’s findings from the Florida presidential election, they’ll have another study to review that supports earlier findings. Florida counties with higher proportions of black registered voters still had higher rates of spoiled ballots.

"The Producers," the Broadway musical written by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan '51 received 11 Drama Desk awards, a new record. The musical opened in April to rave reviews and has already sold out tickets for the remainder of 2001. "The Producers" received awards for outstanding new musical, for outstanding actor in a musical, for the book, for the lyrics, for orchestrations, for set design, and for costume design. The musical has also been nominated for numerous Tony awards which will be presented at the 55th annual Tony awards on June 3.

Senior week is usually a time for relaxing and spending time with friends before graduation. Twelve Hamilton seniors chose instead to devote time to community service.

Richard Brookhiser, author of Alexander Hamilton,American, will be the keynote speaker at The Hamilton Conference at Hamilton College. The conference, which examines the life and legacy of Alexander Hamilton, takes place from Thursday, April 5, to Saturday, April 7. The keynote address, “Alexander Hamilton: His Success and His Failures,” will take place on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the Hamilton College Chapel.

A group of 20 Hamilton students and their faculty advisor, Biology Professor William Pfitsch, are on a two-week trip to study tropical field ecology in Costa Rica.

The March report of the 2000 Census provides a look at race and Hispanic origin in the United States. Hamilton College professor Philip Klinkner says the numbers show a diverse but not integrated portrait of America.

Cheng Li, professor of government at Hamilton College was interviewed for a Washington Post article about the new generation of leaders in China. Li has written a book on the topic, China's Leaders: The New Generation (Rowman & Littlefield, March 2001)
