Hamilton’s student-run Mock Trial team took home the 1st place trophy from the University of Rochester’s “Yellow Jacket Invitational”  held on Nov. 6-8. This is the third year in a row that the team has won this tournament. In addition, two of Hamilton’s attorneys (Silvia Radulescu ’17 and Andrew Fischer ’17) won Outstanding Attorney Awards, and one witness (Patrick McConnell ’19) won an Outstanding Witness Award. This means that the judges consistently ranked each student as being one of the best attorneys or witnesses in their trials.

In the wake of today’s vintage fashion craze, thrift shopping has become increasingly popular among college students and young adults across America. At Hamilton College, a select group of savvy students tapped into their sustainable side and hosted an on-campus fundraising event that appealed to the fashion preferences of the masses.

Hamilton’s Asian Cultural Society (ACS) hosted Diwali with a Bollywood performance by WesMalai from Wesleyan University and DIY Rangoli on Oct. 31.

Over the past month the officers and experienced leaders of the Hamilton Outing Club (HOC) have taken on the task of giving 35 new leaders the training that they need to lead trips for HOC. Student leaders are the heart of HOC and are responsible for leading almost all of the trips that go out during the school year -- ranging from easy day hikes in the Adirondacks to longer trips further afield during breaks.

Several members of Hamilton’s Global Health Organization (GHO) met with Colleen Deacon, U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand’s Central New York regional director, on April 29 in Syracuse, N.Y. Students at the meeting were Rachel Landman ’15, Abigail Armstrong ’15 and Morgan Lane ’16.

A New York Times feature article titled “Butterflies in Your Stomach” focused on Club Ento, a campus organization whose goals are “to increase awareness of and access to edible insects and their benefits and to lower both the intellectual and physical barriers to entomophagy (the consumption of insects),” according to the club's website. The April 12 Education Life section article referenced the group’s panel on crickets, among other activities.

In order to bring in the new lunar year, Asian Cultural Society (ACS) and Hamilton American Chinese Exchange (HACE) co-hosted this year's Lunar New Year celebration on Feb. 18.

Hamilton Microfinance hosted its 2nd annual Date Auction on Feb. 12 as it continues to raise additional funds to provide small business loans to local entrepreneurs. From this year’s auction, the organization raised $1300 and almost tripled the $532 they raised last year.

While most students were studying for exams as the semester came to a close, members of Hamilton Microfinance (HMF) were finalizing their third loan. Building off the momentum from October’s Great Pumpkin Challenge Fundraiser – which raised more than $1000 toward providing small business loans to local entrepreneurs – Hamilton’s micro-lenders identified several potential loan applicants, moving one step closer to achieving their strategic goal of issuing a loan by the end of the semester.

Following a 5th place finish at the Colgate Classic in the beginning of November, the Hamilton College Mock Trial Team finished 7-0-1 at the University of Rochester’s Yellowjacket Invitational, taking home a first place trophy for the first time this season.
