Paul Allen Miller, professor of classics and comparative literature at the University of South Carolina presented the Department of Classics Winslow Lecture on March 4. Miller discussed how and why “Satire is Wholly Roman.” Miller is a familiar face at Hamilton, having taught classics here in the spring of 1996.

Internationally renowned philosopher Richard Rorty spoke as part of the Truax Lecture Series in Philosophy on March 1. His lecture, "Moral Absolutism and Torture," explained two opposing philosophical positions, moral absolutists and consequentialists, and their views on the subject of torture.

More than 300 students met with Hamilton faculty, administrators and staff to help generate solutions concerning Hamilton’s alcohol culture and the secondary effects of alcohol on the campus at the 2004 Adler Conference on February 27. The conference was designed to allow students to discuss many topics and their relation to alcohol consumption on the campus.

The sixth annual Martin Luther King Service Day brought many Hamilton students, faculty and staff and many community members together for one special day of education, tribute and community service. Organized by Haley Reimbold ’06, the executive director of HAVOC, Marc David, assistant dean of students for multicultural affairs, Jeff McArn, College chaplain, and Nancy Thompson, senior associate dean of students, the volunteer day allowed more than 160 Hamilton students to get involved in the local community and make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate.
