President David Wippman co-authored an opinion piece published by The Hill on June 25 titled College towns have been clobbered by COVID-19.

When Emily Cutajar ’21 learned that the job she had planned for the summer was canceled due to COVID-19, she rushed to find another internship. Reaching out to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, she found a new opportunity.

“The motto immortalized on the Hamilton seal is ‘Know Thyself,’” said Todd Franklin, professor of philosophy, at a virtual panel discussion on June 17 about the history and implications of systemic racism. “Part of knowing thyself, however, is knowing how you are situated. Now is the time to really make a concerted effort to know yourself in relation to race and the context of our nation’s racial situation.”

Juasline Plasencia ’23 is using a summer research grant from the College to teach art online to students at Miami Southridge High School — and provide them with art supplies. She plans to share the students’ artwork on social media.

Rob Berk ’20 didn’t celebrate his graduation from Hamilton like most other students, though that might not come as a surprise.

Whether the audience is middle-schoolers or seminarians, lshaq Pathan ’16 delivers information as antidote and fuel for understanding. He is the Bay Area director of the Islamic Networks Group, a nonprofit organization that pursues peace.

Hamilton has committed to developing collectively a comprehensive plan of action, beginning with three steps identified by President Wippman, to set the College on a path toward healing and positive change.

Four faculty members were approved recently for tenure by Hamilton’s Board of Trustees. They include Anne Feltovich (classics), Siobhan Robinson (psychology), Pavitra Sundar (literature and creative writing), and Andrea Townsend (biology).

As a high school senior, Nick Walters ’20 discovered his interest in choral music. At Hamilton, he focused that interest. His next step is a master’s degree in musicology at the University of Cambridge.
