A new economic impact study commissioned by the Albany-based Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities (CICU) for its members found that Hamilton’s estimated economic impact in the Mohawk Valley for 2018-19 totaled $325.5 million.

“There’s a lot of really cool things that you can study with physics, but I feel that if we don’t solve our energy crisis within my lifetime, none of that’s really going to matter. ... I want to help with that matter, help with that push, by either working on renewable energy or carbon capture that can really make in impact before it’s too late,” said Catherine Ryczek ’21, who will soon join the physics doctoral program at the California Institute of Technology.

It’s been a roundabout route for screenwriter and film producer Sherry Klein ’86, who released her first self-produced feature in February. Paradise Cove is a thriller about a couple who are being terrorized by a woman who lives under the Malibu beach house they are renovating.

When thinking about his post-Hamilton path, Noah Giovanelli ’21 knew he wanted to pursue Hispanic studies combined with traveling. His interest arose from the many friends he had from Spanish-speaking countries in high school and a program in Madrid he participated in during his junior year.

Activist, leader, and musician Xiuhtezcatl Martinez—also known as “X”— shared his message about climate and social justice and other topics, in a conversation with the Hamilton community on April 22. Mckela Kanu ’22 and Tenzin Sherpa ’23 moderated the conversation, which was part of The C. Christine Johnson Voices of Color Lecture Series.

After interning at Cornerstone Mobile Counseling, Sophia Coren ’21 has landed a full-time position at the company founded and directed by Ward Halverson ’92. Cornerstone, based in Herkimer, N.Y., links individuals to local, licensed mental health professionals for free and immediate counseling in their homes or virtually across the state of New York.
