  • Tom Meehan, a 1951 graduate of Hamilton College, and collaborator with Mel Brooks of the new Broadway smash, "The Producers," is premiering a new work, Yma Dream," at Symphony Space in New York tonight. Symphony Space is launching a a new series, "Short Scores: A Celebration of the Musical Theater," which consists of four brief fully staged performances.

  • The English Department will host presentations by three senior honors candidates on Wednesday, May 2 at 4 p.m. in Dwight Lounge of the Bristol Campus Center. James Bentley, Christina Parker and Erin Post will present, and respondents are junior English concentrators Mike D'Alessandro, Colleen Fenity, and Theresa Willmore. Refreshments and a discussion will follow.

  • The Hamilton College Jazz Ensemble will perform on Friday, May 4 at 8 p.m. in Wellin Hall. Free and open to the public.

  • The Music department will present a free student concert of voice and clarinet recitals on Saturday, May 5, at 7 p.m. at Wellin Hall in the Schambach Center for Music and the Performing Arts. The concert will feature 13 Hamilton College music students who will perform various works by Monteverdi, Handel, Chopin, Mozart, and others. The Richtones, Hamilton’s Barbershop Quartet, will also perform.

  • Marika Geertz, a candidate for May graduation from Hamilton College, has been awarded a Fulbright Teaching Assistantship to Austria. The purpose of the Fulbright Program is to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and other countries through the exchange of persons, knowledge and skills.

  • Cynthia Fadem will present her Senior Fellowship project in Geomorphology: "Chronology of Landscape Evolution at Oneida Lake, New York," on Wednesday, May 2, at 3:30 p.m. in KJ Aud.

  • The third annual AIDS Hike for Life, held Sunday, April 29 at Hamilton College, raised over $28,000 for AIDS Community Resources, according to organizers. Jeannine Murtaugh said the 5K walk around Hamilton College's Root Glen drew nearly 500 participants. The $28,000 raised is a $7,000 increase from last year.

  • Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States, spoke to a capacity crowd at Hamilton College as the latest guest in the Sacerdote Great Names Series. Carter, President from 1977 to 1981, discussed human rights and the growing chasm between the rich and the poor. He said he would most like to be remembered for championing peace and human rights.

  • The Hamilton College Orchestra will perform a concert of music from the 17th through the 20th centuries on Saturday, April 28, at 8 p.m. at Wellin Hall, Schambach Center. Free and open to the public.

  • The keynote address given by Richard Brookhiser at The Hamilton Conference, held earlier this month at Hamilton College, will be broadcast on C-Span 2 on Sunday, April 29, at 9:45 a.m. Brookhiser is a senior editor at National Review and the author of Alexander Hamilton, American.
