The keynote address given by Richard Brookhiser at The Hamilton Conference, held earlier this month at Hamilton College, will be broadcast on C-Span 2 on Sunday, April 29, at 9:45 a.m. Brookhiser is a senior editor at National Review and the author of Alexander Hamilton, American.

Kenyan band Jabali Afrika will perform on Friday,April 27, at 8 p.m. in the Fillius Events Barn. The band's original sound is attributed to its own unique mixture and special fusion of African rhythms. This is a truly multi-faceted band whose members are not only adept at composing songs, playing a variety of instruments, and blending their voices into a harmonious sound but, are also talented dancers and choreographers.

Nine Hamilton seniors were recently elected to the Epsilon Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa at Hamilton College. They are Pamela Dixon, Hockessin, DE; Janet Davis, Londonderry, NH; Ian Fiebelkorn, Lake View, NY; Lauren Ivison, Del Mar, CA; Abby McDermott, Mexico, NY; Meghna Rakshit, Bombay, India; Erin Reid, Windsor, CT; Emily Sensenbach, Williamson, NY; and Erin Waters, Exeter, NH. Phi Beta Kappa, which established a chapter at Hamilton in 1870, is the oldest and most prestigious honor society in the country. Students are elected to membership in recognition of their exceptional academic achievement in fulfilling the goals and purposes of the college.

There will be a special showing of "Long Night's Journey into Day," a newly released documentary about South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission on Thursday, May 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the Red Pit, KJ.

Christie Bell Vilsack, a 1972 graduate of Kirkland College, and Iowa's First Lady, particiatepd in First Ladies Build, a project of Habitat for Humanity. The purpose of event was to empower women to meet the challenge of substandard housing head on by picking up hammers and building. Current and former first ladies and women governors led the women of their states in the effort to build at least one house in or near the state capital. The project, completed this month, resulted in 68 homes for American families.

In anticipation of another large public turnout for its Sacerdote Great Names at Hamilton Series, Hamilton College officials have announced special parking and shuttle bus plans for the lecture by former President Jimmy Carter on Monday, April 30. Carter will speak at 7:30 p.m. in the Margaret Bundy Scott Field House. Doors will open at 6 p.m.

George Hatke, a senior enrolled in fourth year Arabic in the Critical Languages Program, was recently awarded a one-year scholarship from the Center for Arabic Study Abroad (CASA) to study advanced levels of Colloquial Egyptian as well as Modern Standard Arabic in Egypt at the American University in Cairo.
