Upon their retirement, Hamilton professors are recognized in the program distributed at Commencement. Because the pandemic prevented an in-person event in 2000, this spring's program featured all 14 faculty members who retired over the past two academic years.

These days, the name “Pfizer” brings to mind images of syringes and vaccine cards. But the pharmaceutical giant is concerned with far more than COVID-19 — just ask Ben Jakubczak ’23, who will be working remotely for Pfizer this summer. Jakubczak’s position will be as a research assistant, analyzing data on spontaneous blindness in Wistar Han rats in order to aid future toxicology studies.

For Hannah Katz ’21, college graduation felt like a moment to reflect and “pay forward.” “I decided that after spending a lot of time on my own education and my own experiences … I should spend some time doing service and giving back to communities,” she said. And now, Katz is doing just that by serving as a summer enrichment coordinator for the DREAM Program in Winooski, Vt.

Investigative reporters Kathleen “Kat” McGrory ’05 and Neil Bedi of the Tampa Bay Times were honored with a Pulitzer Prize in the Local Reporting category for a series on a powerful sheriff whose secretive operations harassed Pasco County, Fla., residents.

Hamilton President David Wippman announced the promotion of Associate Professor of Anthropology and Associate Dean of Faculty Nathan Goodale to the rank of professor, effective July 1.

Participants from 10 institutions will gather virtually from June 21 to 23 as Hamilton hosts the Liberal Arts Collaborative for Digital Innovation (LACOL) consortium-wide workshop “Play and Innovation.” LACOL partner colleges include Amherst, Bryn Mawr, Carleton, Davidson, Hamilton, Haverford, Swarthmore, Vassar, and Williams, along with Washington and Lee University.

Recent Hamilton graduate Amari Leigh ’21 presented her honors thesis, “Hashtagging Repression: Stigmatization, Social Media, and the Women’s Movement In Brazil,” at a virtual Harvard University conference.

Last semester I took Professor Jason Cieply’s Literature and Revolution course (Russian 227), which culminated in the publication of a class literary magazine. I had never been involved with a final project of this nature and hope it’s illuminating to share some insights from the production of In Medias Rus.
