In its second meeting of the 2023-24 academic year, the Hamilton Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa elected 17 members of the Class of 2024.

For Madeline Pittel ’24, interning at Sotheby’s has been a longstanding dream. In high school, she would walk by the auction house’s large New York office en route to a job elsewhere, all the while thinking, “I want to work there one day, and I’m going to wait for my junior year college internship. So this is a five- or six-year plan-in-the-making.”

Members of Hamilton’s Class of 2023 have walked off the Commencement stage, canes in hand, and out into the world ready to make a difference and take the lead on global issues and needs.

Every year, Hamilton selects project proposals from members of the senior class that exhibit a “spirit of inquisitiveness and a seriousness of purpose” worthy of $30,000. Hamilton’s Bristol Fellowship awards this generous funding for worldwide research projects that will encourage both “discovery of self and the world.” This year’s recipients, Abigail Moone ’23 and Charlie Ratner ’23 hope to make those same discoveries.

The Thomas J. Watson Fellowship offers participants the chance to explore their “absolute passion.” This mission appealed to Salwa Sidahmed ’23. After graduation, Sidahmed will visit five different countries to follow her passion: plant-based practices and sustainability.

During spring break, Professor of French Joseph Mwantuali visited Yaoundé, Cameroon, where he was an invited guest at a festival celebrating Cameroonian/Ivory Coast writer Werewere-Liking.

Amidst the bustling crowds at Commons and McEwen dining halls, language faculty and students sit around a table to enjoy a meal while conversing in their chosen studied language. Hamilton’s “language tables,” as they are known, provide both valuable speaking experience and community building opportunities.
