At Hamilton, active citizenship is demonstrated in many ways. We talked to several students and young alumni who explain how they discovered an interest at Hamilton that led them to take action to create social change, and have a positive impact on society.

A pandemic coupled with a presidential election have made for a challenging but successful season for the HamVotes team of students, faculty, and staff as they have focused on increasing the voter participation at the College.

As the spring semester unfolded, it was clear to Chris Harrison ’23 that people his age were galvanized by George Floyd’s death in police custody and by the COVID-19 pandemic. The question for Harrison was how to capture that energy to create change.

In 2018 HamVotes, a nonpartisan team of both administrators and student ambassadors, ramped up its presence on campus, organizing events to promote voter registration and increase voter turnout.
