  • A dramatic reading of Aristophanes’ anti-war play Lysistrata will take place on Monday, March 3 at 8:30 p.m. in the Fillius Events Barn at Hamilton College, as part of the first-ever world-wide theatre event for peace. The parts of the play will be read by students and faculty in theatre, classics, English and other departments. This will be one of more than 375 such readings going on in 31 countries on that day, for peace. The play will be preceded by a lecture on a peace issues by Margo Okazawa-Rey.

  • Michael S. Kimmel, a sociologist and author who has received international recognition for his work on men and masculinity, will speak on "Globalization and its Mal(e)contents: The Political Economy of Terrorism," on Thursday, March 6, at 7:30 p.m. in the Kirner-Johnson building auditorium. His talk is part of the Kirkland Project “Masculinities” series. This lecture relates masculinities, violence, and war, taking as its point of departure events of 9/11/01 and focusing on the intersections of race, gender, and class. The lecture, which is free and open to the public, is co-sponsored by the department of sociology and the Levitt Public Affairs Center.

  • The Hamilton College Orchestra, led by Heather Buchman, will inaugurate a new concert format titled Brainstorm!, on Sunday, March 9, at 3 p.m. in Wellin Hall. This concert will explore the turbulent Sturm und Drang/Storm and Stress style developed by Classical composers Haydn and Mozart, and highlighted in the movie Amadeus. The concert is free and open to the public.

  • The Department of Theatre & Dance will present its spring dance concert on Friday and Saturday, March 7 and 8, at 8 p.m. in Wellin Hall. Works by Hamilton dance faculty Leslie Norton and Bruce Walczyk and guest choreographer Elise Morte will be featured. Admission is $3 for students and $5 for adults.
