Stuart Scott, who will become chairman of the board of trustees at Hamilton College on July 1, was on campus today to meet members of the College community. Students, faculty and staff stopped by Cafe Opus for an informal meeting with Scott. A 1961 Hamilton graduate, Scott is chairman of Jones Lang LaSalle Inc., the world’s leading real estate services and investment management firm with approximately 6,700 employees based in more than 100 key markets on five continents.

The Hamilton College and Community Oratorio Society, directed by G. Roberts Kolb, will perform Antonín Dvorák's Requiem on Tuesday, May 7, at 8 p.m. at Wellin Hall in the Schambach Center . The featured soloists are Lauralyn Kolb soprano; Martha Sutter, mezzo-soprano; Todd Greer, tenor; and Timothy LeFebvre, baritone.

Tacey A. Rosolowski, scholar in residence, has been awarded a James Renwick Senior Fellowship in American Craft by the Renwick Gallery, a division of the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, D.C. One Renwick Fellowship is awarded competitively each year, allowing the recipient access to Smithsonian collections, archives, and research staff. Rosolowski has received the Fellowship to support her research on contemporary adornment and its relation to culture. Her fellowship period will begin in January, 2003.

The Christian Science Monitor quoted Government Professor Cheng Li on recent developments in U.S-China relation. President Bush has visited China twice in his first two years in office, and he has spoken of building a positive and friendly relationship with China. However, at the same time President Bush has shown more support than any recent president to Taiwan, which is an island China claims as one of its province. Cheng Li said, “Beijing feels it is getting a mixed message from Washington.”
