The Kirkland Project's series "The Body in Question" continues with a visit to campus by poet Olga Broumas, who will give a poetry reading on Friday, Feb. 1, at 8 p.m. in Dwight Lounge, Bristol Campus Center. The reading is free and open to the public.

Hamilton Professor Cheng Li was cited in the South China Morning Post in a piece discussing the emergence of the fifth generation of China's political leadership. Li suggests that appointment as a provincial leader could give a rising political star the means to gain full membership of the Communist Party Central Committee, which has the power to endorse the political appointments of Politburo members.

Hamilton graduate Jesse Zanger '92, an editor for Fox News, commented on the new use of crawls for the Chicago Tribune. A trend since Sept. 11, Zanger explains that crawls allow stations to get current news breaks onto the air faster than ever before. "News is breaking," he explains, "the crawl is an amazing opportunity to put news out there right away."

The George I. Alden Trust has awarded Hamilton College a $75,000 grant to equip and expand a newly developed networked polarized-light microscopy facility for the science department. The networked microscopy facility will enable the implementation of inquiry-based, cooperative group-learning activities that are part of Hamilton's new curriculum.

Hamilton College Scholar in Residence Tacey Rosolowski has been asked to curate Material Explorations: Wearable Objects of Non-traditional Materials, an international juried exhibition opening at the Munson Williams Proctor Institute School of Art Gallery on March 29.

The Performing Arts at Hamilton opens the spring semester with the Aquila Theatre group performing "The Wrath of Achilles" based on Homer's epic war poem, The Iliad, on Wednesday, Jan. 30, at 8 p.m. at Wellin Hall in the Schambach Center for Music and the Performing Arts.

The Hamilton College Performing Arts begins the spring Classical Connections series with an all-German recital by baritone Wolfgang Holzmair, accompanied by pianist Russell Ryan on Friday, Feb. 15, at 8 p.m. at Wellin Hall in the Schambach Center for Music and the Performing Arts.
