  • James L. Ferguson Professor of Economics Erol Balkan recently participated in the 3rd World Social Forum in Port Alegre, Brazil. Balkan served as a panelist for a session titled "Lessons of the Turkish Economic and Political Crisis" that incorporated his research on speculative short-term capital, "hot money," and its relationship to financial crisis in developing countries. Balkan was one of the delegates affiliated with the Independent Social Scientists Association of Turkey.

  • A book launch party to celebrate Professor of Women's Studies Chandra Talpade Mohanty's new book, Feminism Without Borders: Decolonizing Theory,Practicing Solidarity, will be held on Monday, April 7, from 4-6:30 p.m. at Backus House. There will be remarks celebrating Chandra around 5 p.m., as well as refreshments and books available for purchase. Hosted by the Irwin Chair in Women's Studies. ALl are welcome to attend.
