With his 25th anniversary approaching painter Dan Brown is a great example of the many employees who have given their working lives in service to Hamilton. In addition, he caught the editor's attention as the ultimate collector -- he saves everything from Saratoga bottles to valuable sports memorab -- and for his lifetime of visiting sports venues.

The Hamilton College community is sponsoring a change drive in Beinecke to benefit the Thea Bowman House in Utica, NY. The Thea Bowman house is a non-profit organization that provides daycare and nutrition to children whose parents cannot afford private daycare.

On Halloween night, more than 500 area chiildren will be trick-or-treating in a safe environment--our campus! We still need volunteers to decorate, give directions, or guide the groups, so please let us know if your are interested

Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty David Paris announced the appointment of Professor of Biology Ernest Wiliams to the Leonard C. Ferguson Chair. The Ferguson Chair, previously held by Professors Charlotte Beck and Tom Jones, is designated to rotate among "distinguished members of the Faculty... in all fields of study."

Associate Professor of Chemsitry Tim Elgren published a paper on "Catecholase Activity Associated with Copper-S100B" in Biochemistry. This is a project funded originally by the Institute of Neurological Disorder and Stroke of the National Institutes of Health, a Cotrell Award from the Research Corporation and the Petroleum Research Fund of the American Chemical Society.

The Rochester Drum and Bugle Corps is still looking for three horn, one baritone, one French horn and one trumpet player to complete their squad. If anyone is interested please come to the Hamilton’s Turf Field sometime this week and speak to either Bert or Jeff. The Corps will also be performing a practice run of their performance Thursday June 26 at eight p.m. on the Turf Field. Anyone is encouraged to come watch.

Associate Professor of Music Michael "Doc" Woods was featured in Musical Landscapes in Color: Conversations with Black American Composers by William C. Banfield (Scarecrow Press 2003). Chapter four is devoted to Woods and focuses on his jazz training, philosophy and composition style.

On Friday, Nov. 22, Hamilton's own performance group--Untitled-at-Large--will entertain us all with their unique blend of improv comedy and classic drama
