Professor of Art Rand Carter delivered the opening lecture at the Friends of Schinkel Triennial II in Berlin.  His presentation was titled "Schinkel and the Pompeian Style" and was part of the "Schinkel and Italien" session.  In July, Carter traveled to Peru with members of the Society of Architectural Historians.  Their itinerary focused on the study of architecture and urbanism including Pre-Columbian times representing a constellation of Pre-Inca cultures and the Inca Empire; the Spanish Colonial Period; and the Republican Period following independence from Spain to present day.

Alan Cafruny, Henry Platt Bristol Professor of International Affairs, is co-editor of "A Ruined Fortress?: Neoliberal Hegemony and Transformation in Europe," a collection of essays addressing governance issues in Europe. The book was published by Rowman & Littlefield Publishing Group.

Honorees in the Mohawk Valley's Accent on Excellence awards will receive trophies designed by Hamilton alumnus glass artist John Simpson '72. The trophies, designed at his studio in Shelburne, Mass., feature a glass sphere or planet on a Plexiglass stand. Simpson is known for his "planet" design, a round piece of multiple layers of glass with layers of colors. The Accent on Excellence award honors young residents of the Mohawk Valley who have excelled in their professional lives and dedicated themselves to serving the community.

Bronson Picket, a 1993 graduate of Hamilton, was interviewed by The Boston Herald about his role as high school teacher Marcos Morales in the new Lifetime series "Wild Card." According to the Herald: "After majoring in theater at Hamilton College, Picket moved to New York City and was the lead singer for the band Pull. After Pull broke up for "the reasons most bands do," he decided to try acting again. 'I had been avoiding acting because most of the people I knew in acting were jerks,' he said. He became a founding member of the improv group The Flying Monkeys, found a 'terrific' manager, and since then 'I've been very fortunate. Every year I've had some kind of work,' said Picket.

Hamilton College’s Maurice Isserman, William R. Kenan Professor of History, co-authored a book with Michael Kazin of Georgetown University; the book, titled <i> America Divided: The Civil War of the 1960’s </i> and published by Oxford University Press has been revised and re-released. The Second Edition of the book includes new insights by both Isserman and Kazin regarding events of the 1960’s, including the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Vietnam War, and the rise of the New-Right. More analysis of the cultural changes in the 1960’s is included in the new edition as well, including the important affects of musicians such as Bob Dylan, The Beatles, and Motown had on people and culture of the era.
