Hamilton's best student speakers will compete in the final round of the 2007 Public Speaking Competition on March 3, from 1 to 5 p.m. in the Chapel. The 17 finalists will compete for three separate prizes. All winners will be recognized at the Class and Charter Day 2007 ceremony.

Contenders for the $5000 Warren Wright Prize will present six to eight minute informative speeches followed by questions. The five speeches will focus on socially significant issues of current interest. Finalists are seniors Michael Blasie, Neal Frei, Brie O'Reilly, and Dave Waldman, and sophomore Carly McWilliams.

Competitors for the $2000 Clark Prize will make six to eight minute speeches on the topic "Hamilton: The Second time Around" directed toward a general audience. This particular contest began with essays blindly reviewed by three faculty judges, and was open to all members of the senior class. Finalists are Michael Blasie, Scott Iseman, and Kate Pallin.

Contestants for the four $550 McKinney Prizes will present five to eight minute persuasive speeches on topics relevant to a Hamilton College audience. Finalists are Michael Blasie, Scott Iseman, and Tim Gigl for the Class of 2007, Rachel Marie Cannon, Jovan Livada, and Ntokozo Xaba for the Class of 2008, Mary Daphne Kostakopoulos, Brandon Lemos, and Stuart Lombardi for the Class of 2009, and Diana Di Leonardo, Kyle Lippold, and Katherine Zavin for the Class of 2010.
