Hamilton College will continue the revival of an old tradition with a winter carnival, FebFest 2005, from Feb. 12-19 on campus. This year's theme is "Walley Gone Wild," and events will include the 12th annual Chili Cookoff, a skating party, snoccer tournament, igloo building and chocolate tasting. Those wishing to attend should purchase FebFest buttons ($5) which provide entry into events for free or at reduced cost.
Hamilton's first winter carnival was held in 1938, with events such as a hockey game, dance parties, crowning of the carnival queen and a figure skating exhibition by James and Grace Maden of the U.S. Olympic Team. The tradition continued with similar events until the mid-'50s, when it lost popularity. The winter carnival returned to the Hill in 2000 through the efforts of students and Student Activities staff. FebFest aims to liven up the Hill and provide the Hamilton and Clinton communities a distraction from the cold, snow and work. Activities will include a community snowman building contest in the village of Clinton, a Battle of the Bands, Acoustic Coffeehouse and a fireworks display.
Following are events that are open to the public. All are free unless otherwise noted.
