Alan Cafruny

Alan Cafruny, the Henry Platt Bristol Chair of International Affairs and Professor of Government, recently participated in a workshop on privatization at the University of East London. Members of the workshop documented and analyzed the trend toward privatization in Europe and the U.S. beginning in the 1980s, its limitations, and the contemporary movement towards re-nationalization and municipalization.

Cafruny was also a member of a panel on “The World Turned Upside Down: Launching the 2019 Socialist Register” at the Left Forum Conference at Long Island University in Brooklyn. His talk on “The Left and Europe” explored the contemporary crisis of European politics marked by economic stagnation and austerity in the wake of the eurozone crisis, the growth of right-wing and neo-fascist populist movements, and increasing transatlantic conflict.
