Alternative Spring Break is asking for donations to fund this year's trips to Katrina-affected areas of Louisiana and Mississippi, as well as trips to Kentucky, West Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee in March. Because of the nature of the still ubiquitous hurricane damage, expenses for the 14th annual Alternative Spring Break trips are running extraordinarily high. Sixty-six students are signed up for the six trips.  Hamilton Action Volunteer Outreach Coalition (HAVOC) is asking alumni, students, parents and staff to donate gifts for its March 1 auction or to make cash donations to defray expenses.

In the past, staff and students have contributed a variety of gifts and services, including scarves, cakes, baked goods, dinners, gift certificates, trips, and even babysitting. Please e-mail ASB director Danna Klein at dklein@hamilton.edu to make a donation or ask for more information by March 1.

Last year, the 66 student participants of Alternative Spring Break all traveled to cities in Louisiana and Mississippi to participate in "ASB 2006: Cleaning up After Katrina." This year's groups will travel to Wilmington, N.C.; Cumberland Trails Conference in Crossville, Tenn.; Land Between the Lakes in Golden Pond, Ky; Habitat for Humanity in Franklin, W.V.; Emergency Communities in Buras, La.; and Hands on Gulf Coast in Biloxi, Miss.
