Abhishek Amar

Associate Professor of Religious Studies Abhishek Amar co-organized with Brian Hatcher (Tufts Univ.) and Mark McLaughlin (College of William and Mary) a symposium titled "Tombs, Shrines, Samadhis and Relics" at the 47th Annual Conference on South Asia, held at the University of Wisconsin- Madison.

Amar also presented a research paper titled "The Bodhgaya Mahanths and Their Samadhis in the Bodhgaya Region." In his talk, Amar examined the history of Hindu Dasnami monastery of Bodhgaya and how the monks of this Hindu Shaiva monastery strategically placed burial shrines to establish administrative authority and control in the south Bihar region of India.
