
Assistant Professor of Religious Studies Abhishek Amar organized a panel titled "Transformations and Reconfigurations of Sacred Sites in South Asia" at the Annual Conference of American Academy of Religion in Baltimore from Nov. 22 to 26.
Amar's paper "Hindu Temples in Buddhist Caves: Rematerialization and Modern Transformation of Ancient Sacred Sites in Western India" examined the appropriation of Buddhist sacred site at Karle for constructing a Hindu temple and the role of colonial and post-colonial policies that have subsequently facilitated the growth of this temple in last two centuries.
