Amy Gaffney, director of the Oral Communication Center, was recently recognized at the National Association of Communication Centers conference, hosted by the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She was awarded the Joyce Ferguson Faculty Paper Award, given to the top paper by a faculty member or other administrator that empirically addresses an issue surrounding communication centers.
In her paper, “‘It’s not my major, but…’: Exploring the Impact of Discipline on Tutoring Activities,” Gaffney presented research that examined patterns in how tutors work with students based on whether or not the course is in the tutor’s major.
