Andrew Bernstein, an expert in Ayn Rand's philosophy of objectivism, will give a lecture, "Global Capitalism: The Solution to World Oppression and Poverty," on Wednesday, April 9, at 8 p.m. in the Chapel at Hamilton College. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Bernstein describes the lecture as follows: "This talk shows that wherever the political/economic system of capitalism is instituted…people's freedom and prosperity are greatly increased. This was as true of 18th century Europe as it is of 21st century Asia… Capitalism has cleansed the environment. It provides the antidote to the moral horrors of imperialism, war and slavery. As Ayn Rand states, capitalism is the ideal social system – and this talk, based on three years of research for my forthcoming book, The Capitalist Manifesto, proves it."

Bernstein is the author of a novel, Heart of a Pagan, and the forthcoming The Capitalist Manifesto: The Historic, Economic and Philosophic Case for Laissez-Faire, an examination of the historical success of capitalism and of the philosophical and economic principles that explain it.

His op-ed essays have appeared in such newspapers as The Chicago Tribune, Houston Chronicle, Baltimore Sun and Atlanta Constitution. Bernstein currently teaches philosophy at Pace University and the State University of New York at Purchase, and has taught courses on objectivism at the New School for Social Research, as well as philosophy courses at New York-area colleges, including Long Island University, Hunter College, Iona College, and Marymount College. He also designed the philosophy and literature curriculum at the American Renaissance School, a private high school founded by Objectivists for high-achieving students.

Bernstein has lectured at Harvard University, Stanford, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and Northwestern University. A popular lecturer and guest, he appears frequently on radio shows in Boston, northern California, St. Louis and Detroit, and has been a talk-show radio guest host in Los Angeles. Discussions include such topics as the role of values in human life, the need for heroes in our society, the nature of a proper curriculum for school, and the application of philosophical principles to a broad array of cultural/political topics.

Bernstein's lecture is sponsored by the Objectivist Club.
