Frank Anechiarico, the Maynard-Knox Professor of Government and Law, has spent the summer in several European countries discussing the problems of controlling corruption in public administration and improving the performance of government.

In early June, Anechiarico organized and led a section of a joint American-European conference on improving ethics regulations, held at the university in Leuven, Belgium. He has been working with faculty in the public administration department at the Free University in Amsterdam since the late 1980s, and he has also helped found a European branch of the American Society for Public Administration.

At the Leuven conference, Anechiarico was invited to visit the Hague and joined a workshop at the Interior Ministry, on moving from a rule-based approach to corruption control, to one based on values and ethics in public service.
