The Election Law Journal published a book review of Getting the Government America Deserves: How Ethics Reform Can Make A Difference in September written by Maynard-Knox Professor of Government and Law Frank Anechiarico. The book was authored by Richard W. Painter and published by the Oxford University Press in 2009.
In his review, Anechiarico analyzed how Painter described the balance of power between different factions of the government and how these dynamics are affected by the issues of public trust and ethics (or lack thereof). Ultimately, Anechiarco concluded that Painter’s own analysis was “too narrow” on problems of ethics reform. Instead of exploring the relationship between corporate interests and the government in depth, Anechiarico suggested that the author often relied on rather “self-evident” observations that "greatly disadvantage" the book's poignancy as a whole.
